About Hey.Kiwi.

Hey.Kiwi is a small, locally-run project building free, useful tools for everyday New Zealanders.

Why we’re doing this

Most of the everyday utilities people reach for online — file senders, PDF converters, study aids, calculators — are either gated behind sign-ups, plastered with dark-pattern paywalls, or built for a market that doesn’t look much like ours. We wanted somewhere a Kiwi could go, get the small thing done, and move on with their day.

That’s the whole pitch: a growing library of small, well-made tools, free at the point of use, run by people you could in theory bump into at a Wellington coffee shop.

What we’re building

The library starts with FileShare — a no-account, drag-and-drop file sender. From there, the shortlist for the next few months includes a PDF converter, PDF-to-flashcards for students, a GST calculator for sole traders, and an image compressor.

How we keep it free

The tools cost money to host, build, and keep online. To keep them free for the user, we run ads. We try to keep advertising tasteful — never inside a tool while you’re trying to use it, and never tracking you across the rest of the web more than the platform requires. If we ever introduce optional paid features, the free tools stay free.

Made in New Zealand

Hey.Kiwi is run out of Aotearoa. Where it makes sense, our hosting and infrastructure are local too. We pay GST.
