Kia ora — meet Hey.Kiwi
The short version
Hey.Kiwi is a growing library of small, free web tools — built locally for everyday New Zealanders. The first one out the door is FileShare, a no-account drag-and-drop file sender at fileshare.hey.kiwi.
Why we started
Every Kiwi has had the same five-minute frustration: you need to convert a PDF, send a chunky file to a tradesperson, or turn a chapter of notes into flashcards before an exam — and the first ten Google results are either gated behind a sign-up wall, plastered with shady ads, or designed for a market that isn't us.
We thought there was room for a smaller, friendlier shelf of tools. Something free at the point of use, run out of New Zealand, and only ever as complicated as it needs to be.
What's live
FileShare. Drag a file, get a link. No account. Hosted in New Zealand.
What's next
In rough order:
- PDF converter — PDF to Word, images, plain text, and back.
- PDF → cue cards — paste in lecture notes, get a printable study deck.
- GST calculator — for the sole traders.
- Image compressor — for Trade Me listings and email attachments.
- NZ public holidays API — a tidy JSON feed.
If there's a small thing you wish existed, tell us — we read everything and the roadmap is genuinely shaped by what people ask for.
How we keep it free
Ads. Specifically, ads on the marketing site you're reading right now and on the lower-traffic edges of each tool — never in the middle of a tool while you're trying to use it. If we ever add paid features, the free tools stay free.
Ngā mihi nui — and welcome.
